Second Grade Story Quilts
I read the book "Tar Beach" by Faith Ringgold to the second graders. Students were introduced to Ringgold's story quilts and we created our own version. Students used different decorative paper and fabric to make the boarder of their quilts. Then students filled in the sentence "If I could fly, I would go to ________ because _________." Students then drew their story and colored it in with colored pencils.
Second Grade Jungles
Second Graders were introduced to the artist Henri Rousseau and his jungle paintings. Students brainstormed and practiced drawing jungle animals with Learn-To-Draws and sketched their animals and scenery. Students learned how to use markers in "One Direction" to make their artwork look neat.
